General Information

Ireland will be the location for the 2008 study abroad program brought to you by Clemson University's Department of Leadership, Counselor Education, Human and Organizational Development.

The program offers a credit-based track for graduate students majoring in student affairs or higher education. Professionals and faculty members in higher education and student affairs may participate in a professional development track offered for graduate credit.

This program is experiential and the participants will be involved in a great deal of walking in rugged, historic venues.

Goals of the Study Tour

  • To provide an opportunity to compare educational systems
  • To learn about higher education in another country
  • To learn about culture, people, history, politics, and literature of another country
  • To gain exposure to the economics of another country and current issues as they relate to higher education
  • To exchange ideas with colleagues and students from another country

 

Participant Opportunities

  • During the trip, participants will gain an international experience of student affairs, the educational system, and the culture of Ireland. We will have opportunities to interact and network with our Irish colleagues.
  • Visits and tours of five Universities: University of Galway, Galway-Mayo Technical Institute, University of Ireland at Cork, Dublin City College, and Trinity College
  • Participants will attend lectures on educational systems, student affairs, and major issues in education. In addition, lectures will be presented on history, politics, literature, and art. Visit a variety of cultural sites including museums, Bunratty Castle, Blarney Castle, a medieval banquet, Killarney National Park, quaint villages and shops Participants will meet and network with students, staff and faculty from Ireland as well as the U S and learn their perspective of the educational system and Ireland.
