M.Ed. Administration & Supervision
Overview
The Master of Education degree in Administration and Supervision prepares individuals as elementary or secondary school administrators or supervisors. The program provides both a theoretical and field-based foundation in educational leadership with a focus on leading instructional improvement for the benefit of all P-12 students.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
For admission, individuals must have:
A. Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution
B. A minimum of one (1) year teaching experience
C. Admission to the Clemson Graduate School
- To be considered for admission to the Graduate School candidates must submit:
- Online application
($55.00 application fee)
- Degree-seeking candidates must select program code 303 (Administration and Supervision) on the online application form
- Non-degree seeking candidates must select program code 300 (Non-degree) on the online application form AND indicate intended plan for study (e.g. Future degree seeking, Certification only, etc.) on the application form
- Official transcripts
- Transcripts are required from prior institutions from which a degree was awarded and from which transfer credit is desired (GPR of 3.00 during the last 60 hours)
- Two recommendations (one from immediate/prior supervisor)
- Recommendation forms may be sent to recommenders electronically from online application or you may download a PDF recommendation form to send to your recommenders to complete and return to the Graduate School
- Current resume
- Copy of teaching certificate
- Competitive GRE scores
- Scores are only needed if a student is pursuing a M.Ed. degree. Students working on certification only do not need to take the GRE
- Competitive scores are required for admissions for degree-seeking candidates. Scores are considered holistically with applicant's background and potential success in graduate school

- Applicants for whom English is a second language must also submit acceptable TOEFL scores
Regular application deadlines are March 1 and October 1*. Only complete application packets will be considered for admission.
*Please note: Deadline dates may vary for district-based contract courses/ cohort groups. These dates would be announced through district-based recruitment sessions and materials
If requested by the program coordinator, an interview may be required prior to an admissions decision.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
This program incorporates the academic requirements for certification as a principal and supervisor in South Carolina. Thirty-six hours of graduate credit are required.
Students must complete the following seven core courses (21 hours):
ED L 710, 720, 725, 730, 745, and two elementary school principal internships (750 and 751) or two secondary school principals internships (755 and 756)In addition, students complete five courses (15 hours of electives) selected from:
ED L 700, 705, 715, 735, 740, 795, ED F 778 or ED L 839

We also consider candidates for non-degree admissions. There are two types of non-degree admissions:
- An applicant may be admitted as a non-degree student while completing degree admission requirements. Only the following four courses may be taken prior to admission to the degree-seeking program: ED L 700, 715, 730, and 735.
- Applicants who hold a master's degree may be admitted to pursue add-on certification courses as non-degree seeking students. Applicants must complete all admissions requirements detailed above, but are not required to submit GRE scores.
Appropriate courses completed while in a non-degree admission status may be approved for use in a subsequent degree or certification program up to a maximum of 12 semester hours. The 12 semester hour limit includes courses accepted for transfer from other institutions. Students who wish to have transfer courses considered are advised to confer with program coordinator/ advisor prior to taking ED L courses.
