Pre-Professional Studies in Health (PPSH)

This concentration area is specifically designed for students who plan to attend graduate school in one of the health specialties. Students in the Pre-professional Health Studies Concentration obtain the coursework and experience necessary for acceptance into various graduate programs in clinical health professions. This concentration allows students to meet the undergraduate admissions requirements for advanced training. It is designed for students seeking entrance to medical, physical therapy, occupational therapy, dental and other clinical professional programs.

Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental Requirements:

Students planning to apply to medical or dental school are required to take certain courses including:

  • 8 hours of General Biology
  • 8 Hours of General Chemistry
  • 8 hours of Organic Chemistry
  • 8 hours of Physics
  • General Biochemistry (BIOCH 301) is also recommended.

These courses reflect the general requirements for entrance into medical school. Students applying to Physician Assistant (PA) school should also take MICRO 301, as it is a requirement for entrance into most PA schools. These courses will reduce the number of credit hours in the theme courses for this concentration. Instead of having 24 credit hours in courses related to one of the themes, premedical and dental students will have that number reduced by the additional chemistry course needed. Students are also recommended to take one semester of calculus as a general education mathematics requirement.
