Joel Williams
Dr. Joel Williams completed undergraduate training in Exercise Science and Sports Medicine, graduate training in Health Promotion, Education and Behavior, and postdoctoral training in Evidence Based Public Health, and Pediatric Obesity Prevention. Joel’s practical experience includes working as a Certified Athletic Trainer in an outpatient physical therapy setting, a Certified Health/Fitness Instructor for a large, hospital-based fitness center, and a Chronic Disease Program Evaluator at the state health department level. His research experience includes serving in research assistant, project director and co-investigator roles on a number of projects funded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development, the National Cancer Institute, and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, examining diverse health issues including community indicators of physical activity behavior, school-based obesity prevention, men’s prostate and colorectal cancer beliefs, and rural older adult use of complementary and alternative medicine for health self management.Dr. Williams is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences and an Extension Physical Activity and Health Specialist with Clemson Cooperative Extension. Joel serves as an Internal Scientific Panel Member for Clemson’s Institute for Engaged Aging, a Faculty Associate with the Center for Research in Health Disparities, and Site Leader for a research collaborative with Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. His primary research interests include promoting physical activity across the lifespan, increasing physical functioning in older adults and seniors, and promoting healthy eating behaviors and physical activity in families.
