In August 2001, upon the retirement of Dean Cheatham, Dr. Lawrence R.
Allen assumed the position of Interim Dean of the College. Dr. Brenda
J. Thames was named Interim Associate Dean for Research and Curriculum
Development and Dr. William L. Havice was named Associate Dean for Academic
Support Services.
Dr. Allen was named to a 3-year appointment as College Dean in 2003; in December
of that same year, Dr. Thames was named to the permanent position of Associate
Dean for Research and Curriculum Development. The College faculty adopted the
College slogan, The Engaged College with a Personal Touch.
In 2004, the Associate Deans’ titles were changed. Dr. Thames became
the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies; Dr. Havice became Associate
Dean for Academic Support Services and Undergraduate Studies.
A multi-million dollar, state-of-the-art Clinical Learning Research Center (CLRC)
was completed in the fall of 2005. The Center includes a Learning Resource facility
and a Clinical Laboratory. The College of HEHD hosted its first Open House to
highlight the opening of the CLRC and to celebrate the rapid growth and development
of the College.
On March 22, 2006, after conducting a national search, Dr. Allen was named to
the permanent position of Dean of the College of Health, Education, and Human
Development.
