Total Testing

Total Testing is a component of the TESS program – Teaching Effectiveness for Student Success, a program of the School of Nursing designed to assist students in successfully gaining content knowledge and passing the NCLEX exam which is required in order to obtain a license as a registered nurse. The program is coordinated through the office of Dr. Linda Howe and administered through the Learning Resource Center. The tests are provided by Educational Resource, Inc. known as ERI.

The components of the program are as follows:

• Cognitive Profiles
• Study Behavior Inventory
• Total Testing
• Individualized Prescriptions
• Focused Counseling
• Enrichment Materials
• Teaching to Learning Styles

* The Study Behavior Inventory (SBI) is a 40 question test taken at the Academic Support Center located on the third floor of Cooper Library. The Center provides the test on four computers and takes approximately 15 minutes to take the test. The Center is open Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm.

The Testing Procedure is as follows:

• You must have paid your total testing fee to gain access to a computer. Fees are paid to Kim Finley, Student Services Coordinator in Room 502 Edwards. Fees must be paid by either check or money order.
• Show your Student ID and sign in. You will find a notebook at the front desk where you are listed as either a Junior I, Junior II, Senior I, Senior II or a Freshman. Request the password in order to access the test.
• Leave your books at the LRC desk.
• Do not discuss the test with others at the computer.
• Do not make noise or distract others.
• Complete the test during one sitting (allow one minute per question plus 15 minutes) and print out your results. Test printouts are the only copies that can be made in the LRC for free.
• Take this copy to the professor of the course to be logged in as requested.
• Grades will be released only AFTER total testing for the course is complete.
