A New Guidebook is Available on our Resources Page
One important element in decision-making is having the information needed to make an informed decision. Choices: Decision-Making Guidance and Resources for Senior Adults and Their Families, developed by Louise S. Wood, provides basic information about a number of situations that many older adults and their families have to face and suggests guidelines for help in making decisions. This guidebook was created in response to a need identified by the IEA Advisory Board. Board members such as Denise Rivers, Deputy Director of the SC Division of Aging Studies in the Lt. Governor’s office, Beth Cecil with White Oak Management, Inc., Brenda Hyleman with SC DHHS, and Beth Todd, President of the SC Occupational Therapy Association; along with IEA faculty associates Dr. Nancy Porter, Dr. Johnell Brooks, and Dr. Joel Williams contributed to the guidebook which includes sections on driving, long term care, home help, and decisions regarding nursing home residence.
